High School Genes is a Goop product and, like all Goop brand products, it was created for women. Goop has been around for a while now.

The company was founded in 2008, by Gwyneth Paltrow. However, although all it originally had to offer was an email newsletter full of new age advice for modern-thinking women, the company has since expanded into other areas and now has an online store that sells Goop fragrances, clothes and many other branded items.

The Goop Wellness range consists of four nutritional supplements, each of which has been designed by a doctor. High School Genes is the creation of, hormone expert, Dr Sara Gottfried, who says she invented it to help women who are around the age of 40 and are finding it has become more difficult to keep their weight under control.

This suggests High School Genes is for weight loss, but a disclaimer hidden in a drop-down menu says otherwise, stating loud and bold: “High School Genes is not a weight loss product”.

What is High School Genes?

High School Genes is actually a combination of five products rolled into one. All of them are produced in pill format and packed into small envelopes that contain enough pills for a day, but there is not much information about what the pills are meant to do.

The product description is only one paragraph long and states the formulation was developed for women in a “premenopausal or postmenopausal state” who are finding the things they did to keep their weight under control no longer work because their metabolism has slowed down.

Goop then go on to say: “This regimen addresses numerous systems in the body that may contribute to weight gain when not functioning properly.”

So what is High School Genes? Reading to between the lines, it’s a product that may assist weight loss by limiting the damage caused to the metabolism by the hormone level fluctuations that occur just before menopause and may continue to be a problem all through “the change” and during the transition period that follows it.

So What Does This Mean?

There is evidence to suggest a relationship between menopause and weight gain, but not all women have this problem. So, High School Genes may not be a good fit for many menopausal women, but could help others. In theory anyway.

How to Use High School Genes

Women who decide to use this product will need to choose their preferred time of day (try and keep it consistent) and then rip open one of the envelopes and consume the contents:

  • 2 x Metabolism Boosting Tablets
  • 1 x Omega-3 EPA-DHA 1000 Capsule
  • 1 x Free Radical Scavenger Tablet
  • 1 x Gut Balance Tablet
  • 1 x PhytoBlend Multi tablet

Trying to swallow six pills together would be difficult, but doing it one or two at a time should not be a problem for the majority of women, presuming an adequate supply of water is close at hand.

The Ingredients That Power the Blend

The four High School Genes formulations are not differentiated on the supplement facts provided by Goop.

All the ingredients are grouped together, starting with a list of vitamins and minerals. Other ingredients include taurine, berberine, green tea, green coffee bean extract, and omega-3. We counted around 50 ingredients in total. That’s a lot.

As far as the vitamins go, Vitamin B is dominant. No surprise there. B vitamins are known to support a healthy metabolism, however the inclusion rates for a lot of the vitamins are incredibly high and this can only increase the chances of side effects.

Zinc and chromium are arguably the best two minerals in the blend. Zinc aids sex hormone secretion and chromium is a popular diet pill ingredient that helps keep insulin and blood sugar levels under control.

Iodine is also a valid inclusion because the thyroid gland needs it for manufacturing the “T” hormones that govern the metabolic rate. Green tea is a good fat burner and green coffee bean extract can boost the metabolism and help prevent fat absorption, but there are so many ingredients involved it’s impossible to say what benefits or reaction issues High School Genes users should expect,

Potential Side Effects and Other Health Considerations

This product contains too many ingredients, some of which are provided in quantities that exceed recommended amounts. This increases the chance of side effects and interaction issues so we suggest all potential users ask their GP for advice before buying High School Genes

Product Pricing v Value For Money

There are 180 pills per box, so the $90 price tag does not seem unreasonable at first blush, but a lot of people may not need all those extra vitamins and minerals.

However, the biggest problem is there is no proof the pills will work and Goop does not provide a money back guarantee.

With good ingredients like green tea and green coffee bean extract included in the mix, it’s possible that users may find they lose weight a little faster, but the product’s ability to manipulate female hormone levels is questionable and the absence of customer reviews means there is no way of knowing if it has achieved this for women who have used it in the past.

It seems likely that most women who buy High School Genes will do so because they want to lose weight, but most diet pills cost less and are likely to deliver better results.

Even the top-rated diet pill in the world costs less than High School Genes. It’s called Phen375 and customers get a 60-day money back guarantee. So, for good value for money, Phen375 is easily the better option.
